MASERATI 3500 GT Vignale Spider Cabriolet

The Maserati 3500 GT and the Maserati 3500 GT Convertible were 2-door coupé and convertible grand tourers made by Italian car manufacturer Maserati between 1957 and 1964. It was a seminal vehicle for Maserati, as the company's first, successful, attempt at the Gran Turismo market and series production.

With the 3500 GT, Maserati started the series production of roadgoing sports car. 1959 Maserati introduced the spider version of the 3500GT – the 3500 GT Convertible Spider Vignale at the auto show in Turin. The convertible  made by Carrozzeria Vignale and based on the design by Michelotti went into production in 1960. Unlike the 3500GT which was bodied in all aluminium, hence the use of the word 'Superleggera' (Superlight), the Spyder Vignale's body and doors were made of steel, for added strength, but the bonnet and boot lid were made of aluminium, to save on weight.
